The Gazprom headquarters hosted on Wednesday a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Andrey Nelidov, Head of the Republic of Karelia. One of the subjects was a possible sideline of the Shtokman – Volkhov pipeline to improve gasification in Karelia.

The US-based hotel chain Marriott International has announced to build three new hotels in Sochi with a total capacity of 893 rooms. Guests during and after the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 will be able to choose between the Marriott Hotel Krasnaya Polyana, Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and the exclusive JW Marriott Golf Resort of Sochi.
Russia: IMF experts expect in the years 2012-2013 inflation around

Experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expect that inflation in Russia will be in the years 2012 to 2013 around 6.3 to 6.4 percent. The head of the IMF's agency in Russia, Odd Per Brekk said this on Thursday to reporters. "In and of itself, we expect that it (inflation) will remain unchanged", he summarized.
Russia's statistics agency reported positive figures about the country's industrial growth

Russia's industrial production rose in 2011 a total of 4.7 percent. This is stated in a report on the country's industrial production which the state statistics agency Rosstat published. The increase includes all major industry sectors: oil (+ 0.8 percent), gas (+ 2.9), cars (+ 44.5), trucks (+ 6.6 percent).
Putin proposes introduction of mandatory language and culture test for immigrants to Russia from 2013

Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is of the opinion that all immigrants who come to Russia from 2013 must take a mandatory test that includes Russian language, literature and history. He wrote this in the newspaper "Nezavisimaya Gazeta", which published on Monday his article "Russia: the national question".

AKVA group to deliver Cage Farm to Murmansk region

AKVA group ASA and OJSC «Russian Sea Group» announced the signing of a contract for a complete AKVA Cage Farm to be installed in the operations of Russian Sea-Aquaculture LLC in the Murmansk region. The farm will have an annual production capacity up to 5,000 tons of salmon. The contract total value stands at 25.4 MNOK and is to be delivered in the two first quarters of 2012.

The Gazprom headquarters hosted on Wednesday a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Viktor Vekselberg, Chairman of the Renova Group Board of Directors. The parties confirmed the intent to complete the merger of the power assets owned by both companies and agreed to extend till the end of the first quarter of 2012 the relevant Agreement of Intent signed in July 2011.
Ministry of Finance: almost 50 percent of income to Russia's state budget from oil and gas industry

Transfers from oil and gas industry accounted for 49.7 percent of the income of Russia's state budget in 2011and amounted to 140.3 billion Euros. This was published by the Russian Finance Ministry on Thursday.
Russian Attorney General reports around 3,000 violations of election law by parliamentary elections in December

During the Russian parliamentary elections which took place in December it came according to the prosecutor's investigations to 3,000 violations of the election law. A report was sent to President Dmitry Medvedev and was posted on Kremlin`s official website. It says that in connection with the investigation so far "95 people were imposed administrative fines".

The External and Public Relations Department of the Bank of Russia informed on Thursday that the country’s international currency and gold reserves are up 0.6 billion USD or app. 0.1 percent since the end of last year to a volume of 497.1 billion USD as of 13 January 2012.

The Russian gas giant Gazprom has lowered gas prices for five European companies. Experts believe that this is a sign of the company`s flexible policy in relation to changes of the situation in Europe's gas market, writes the news service "Voice of Russia".
74 new investment projects in Russia's special economic zones were agreed in 2011

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has in 2011 mobilized 74 investors to invest in special economic zones in Russia. The investment has a value of 91 billion rubles (around 2.25 billion Euros), said Dmitry Levtshenkov, head of the department of special economic zones and project funding in the Ministry on Monday. "This will make it possible to create more than 15,500 jobs", he said.

The growth of Russia's gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to 4.2 percent in 2011, said an obviously satisfied Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. "Russia occupies the third position when it comes to global GDP growth after China (9.5 percent) and India (7.8 percent)". He compared the development of Russian economy with last year's results in other countries: "Minus 5.5 percent in Greece, down 0.4 percent in Japan, up 1.5 percent in the Euro-zone, plus 1.6 percent in the United States".
Arkhangelsk Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk dismissed by President Medvedev

Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has on Friday dismissed the governor of Arkhangelsk region, Ilya Mikhalchuk (55). The president has previously criticized the governor for problems in public services in the region, including the hot water supply.
Gazprom will get voting rights in regional German gas supplier VNG

Gazprom may in the future exercise its voting rights for the shares which the Russian gas giant holds in East Germany's largest gas supplier, Verbundnetz Gas AG (VNG). The German Antitrust Authority has on Friday stated that they will approve that Gazprom may exercise the voting rights of its minority interest of 10.52 percent of VNG. The final decision will be made by the end of the month.
General Motors will double car sales in Russia to over half a million a year

The American car giant General Motors (GM) plans to increase its investments in Russia, which will lead to more than double the current production. GM will invest until 2015 about one billion dollars (778 million euros) said GM boss James Bovenzi who is an executive responsible for Russia, on Friday in connection with the Motor Show in Detroit.
