August with new record for travels between Russia and Finland

August was a record-breaking month for land travel between Finland and Russia. South-eastern border officials registered over 700,000 crossings, more than ever before seen in a single month, according to YLE.

Medvedev: No threat of food deficit caused by recent drought

There is no threat of a food deficit in Russia despite the recent drought, The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, said during a meeting of the State Council on domestic food market policies in Saratov (Volga region).

The External and Public Relations Department of the Bank of Russia informed on Thursday that the country’s international currency and gold reserves are up 0.6 billion USD or 0.2 percent during last week to a volume of 475.8 billion USD per 27 August 2010.
Foreign Minister Lavrov in Warsaw to meet Polish colleague and ambassadors

Thursday Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in the annual meeting of Polish ambassadors in Warsaw and also hold talks with the Foreign Minister of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski. According to RIA Novosti, the Russian foreign minister flew to Warsaw on a special invitation of Sikorsky.
Russia plans to increase import duties for foreign-produced cars

Russia wants to protect its own auto industry and has again plans to increase the toll fee for cars made abroad. A gradual increase in charges is scheduled for the coming years, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Monday on Russia's state TV channel Rossiya-24.

Norwegian DOF Subsea gets contract for geotechnical survey from Shtokman Development AG

Bergen-based specialist subsea service company DOF Subsea Norway has been awarded a contract for the provision of Complementary Offshore Geotechnical Survey by Shtokman Development AG (SDAG) reports . DOF Subsea will commence work in the Shtokman Gas Condensate field in early September utilising own vessel Geobay. The scope of work, consisting of offshore geotechnical survey, onshore testing and reporting, will be carried out in cooperation with PeterGaz Ltd.
Motorway construction through Khimki Forest suspended by Medvedev

Dmitry Medvedev announced this decision in his blog. The President instructed the Government to suspend the implementation of the resolution on the motorway construction through the Khimki Forest and to conduct further public and expert discussions on the issue.

The city of St. Petersburg, with five million inhabitants, now treats 92 per cent of its waste water. At the end of this year, the figure is set to rise to 93.5%, and at the end of 2011 it will be 95%, says Felix Karamasinov, head of Vodakanal, the water utility of St. Petersburg, to the Finnish newspapaer Helsingin Sanomat.
Shtokman Development AG held public meeting in Teriberka

Shtokman Development AG (SDAG) held a scoping meeting with public on August 26, 2010 in Teriberka, Murmansk Region. Subject of the meeting were so-called basic ESHIA issues (Project: Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment). ESHIA is carried out in compliance with environmental and social requirements of international finance institutions (International Finance Corporation, World Bank and EBRD), and international ecological legislation, SDAG reports on its website.
