The news agency REGNUM reports that police authorities in the Murmansk region have opened an investigation in connection with an assumed bribe case. The acting Mayor of Teriberka, who replaced the former mayor, was according to the news agency arrested on 16 June when he received a sum of money from a private company.

On April 13 Teriberka school hosted the meeting of its graduates and their parents where the representative of Shtokman Development AG HR Department addressed the audience. It was decided to extend in 2011 the training program “Shtokman scholarship holder”.

The Arbitration Court in St. Petersburg has confirmed the verdict of a Murmansk court in the Teriberka School Case, regarding a building which was sold on an auction to FLAIT Invest. This company intended to transform the abandoned school building into a hotel. The state attorney was of the opinion that the administration of Teriberka made formal mistakes in the procedure and they lost the case in November in Murmansk. The renewed verdict will most likely be contested in the St. Petersburg Cassation Court.

The investigation against the suspended mayor of Teriberka, the future hub of the Shtokman project app. 130 kilometers northeast of Murmansk, is now closed. Valery Yarantsev, in Norway known as the captain of the Russian fishing trawler Elektron who fled from the Norwegian Coastguard when fishing in the Barents Sea, is accused of misconduct and misuse of municipal budget funds. The Court of Murmansk will now make a final decision.


The basic onshore facilities will be constructed outside of the village of Shtokman. An area of 166.000 hectares (equivalent to 1,660 square kilometers) in Teriberka has been reserved for public use by the regional government of Murmansk for a period of seven years. The reserved area will ensure the need for the development of the Shtokman project. Here you will find information about the onshore parts of the project and the time table for milestone decisions. FLAITgroup has been approached by the local administration of Teriberka which asked for help to renovate the House of Culture in the old part of the village. The building is a landmark in the village and has an impressive size and architecture – it is a witness from the time when Teriberka was a prospering community about 50 years ago. But it is in a very poor condition and urgently needs some repair. The first step would be to repair the roof of the building – this urgent task will cost round 1 million ruble or less than 25.000 Euro. Please read this and join the initiative.

With its boat graveyard, abandoned cars and insalubrious houses, Teriberka may look like a ghost town, but its 700 residents still hold out hope it will turn into the hub of a massive gas project, as they were promised long ago. The press agency AFP made an interesting article about Teriberka which has been published in a lot of countries world wide – even in Sri Lanka.

Valery Yarantsev, the colorful mayor of the Shtokman village Teriberka, is temporarily dismissed from his position. This web-based newspaper Gazeta.ru reported that on Wednesday afternoon.

The mayor is accused of abuse of power in connection with the city's heating system last winter. Yaratsev denies that he has done something illegal. Teriberka is the hub for the giant Shtokman gas project, where habour terminals, a LNG-factory and other infrastructure will be built. It is expected that the work will start during spring 2011.

Weather forecast for Teriberka

Teriberka is a village in Kolskij District in the Murmansk region. It is located at the shore of the Barents Sea, at the mouth of the Teriberka River, app. 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Murmansk. The village consists of two parts: “old” Teriberka (where Shtokman-related development will take place) and “new” Teriberka (Lodejnoe), a Soviet-style area where most of the inhabitants live. The Shtokman field is located in the central part of the shelf of the Russian sector of the Barents Sea, app. 550-600 kilometers northeast of Murmansk, about 320 – 350 meters below sea level. C1+Ń2 reserves amount to 3.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and about 37 million tons of gas condensate. The Shtokman gas and condensate field was discovered in 1988. The fishing village of Teriberka (130 kilometer northeast of Murmansk) will be the main hub for the Shtokman activities. [ more ]
